North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

North Myrtle Beach is a city located in the state of South Carolina. It covers an area of thirteen square miles and has a population of eleven thousand residents. This city has four distinct neighborhoods which include Ocean Drive Beach, Windy Hill Beach, Crescent Beach and Cherry Grove. The area on which North Myrtle Beach is located was once home to Native American tribes such as the Waccamaw and the Winyah. These Native Americans referred to the area as Chicora, which means The Land. In the sixteenth century, the Spanish explored the area. Over the years, North Myrtle Beach has been occuppied by everything from indigo plantations to pirates such as Blackbeard. Today, its a popular tourist attraction that has a lot to offer tourist. From its many exciting festivals to its ecclectic collection of shops and stores. It also features a full line of theaters and golf courses for the visitor looking for entertainment. Barefoot Landing is a popular stop for visitors to the city. It is a shopping complex that was founded in 1988 and features a number of shops and other activities. Features of Barefoot Landing include American Vintage, Ron Jon’s Surf Shop, Belches n’ Burps, Christmas Mouse, Black Market Minerals, Anything Joe’s, Burlington Shoes, Chico’s, Dr. Rootbeer’s Hall of Foam, The Bone Appetit Bakery, Carolina Vineyards Winery, House of Blues, Candybarrel, Alabama Theater, Barefoot Landing Marina, Myrtle Beach Ghost Walk, Ghosts and Legends Theater, Barefoot General Store, Alligator Adventure and Tigers Preservation Station. Tigers Preservation Station is dedicated to protecting elephants and tigers. The name tiger stands for “The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species”. It was created in 1982 by Doc Antle to help raise awareness of the plight of certain endangered species.

The Alabama Theater at North Myrtle Beach is another prominent attraction in the city. This theater was opened in 1993 and has many shows that are centered around family life and spending time together in the city. It also has a number of country music singers who perform there on a regular basis.
